Is Convenience making us fat?

When I was MUCH larger (an entire person larger), I blamed my lack of nutrition or POOR nutrition on time or convenience, well, some of it at least.  It was 'easier' for me to drive through Burger King and pick up that breakfast cinnamon roll and a coke than it was for me to eat cereal or eggs.

Do you find yourself blaming your poor dieting and nutrition on the fact that you don't have time?  Think about what that supposed lack of time is doing to you.  Driving through McDonald's or B.K in the morning to get that breakfast sandwich is doing nothing but adding pounds onto you.  The trans-fats that are in those sandwiches accompanied by that huge, sugary, high empty calorie, soda are just slowly killing you.  Change that horrible habit.  If you have zero time, think about planning out your meals for the week on a Sunday.  Cook things you can grab and go.  Chicken breasts, veggies, fruit, oatmeal... anything to give you a reason NOT to take that right turn into that fast food joint to pick up that convenience food.

Just as bad is NOT eating breakfast.  People think that if they skip breakfast, then they have that many more calories to eat during the day... WRONG!!! You need that fuel.  Think about it... the last time you ate was the night before, more than likely late (8 or so I would guess) and your body has reached 'starvation mode'.  Your metabolism is slowing down and needs that meal to get going.

Take the time.... your body will thank you!!

My Lab is a great alarm clock...

That dreaded sound of the alarm going off at 5:30a.m. this morning was all I could think about when I finally drifted off to sleep last night.  Would I actually get out of bed at the time that I had been telling myself for so long that I would?  I had told myself many times over and over again with good intentions that I would get up early and work out... After all there are studies that prove you lose more weight first thing in the morning because it 'wakes up' your metabolism.

5:30am........ my anticipation of that alarm buzzer arrived.  "BEEP, BEEP, BEEP... " and of course out of habit, my arm flies over and hits snooze... 'aaaahhhh silence..... ' says the 'sleepy' voice in my head... Then all of a sudden I remember that I had made a decision... "GET UP!!" says the 'determined' side... "but I can sleep another HOUR..." says the 'sleepy' side.  "GET UP!!!" says the determined side.. (yes, I argued with myself).  10 minutes later, my lab jumped on me... and if she could talk, she would have said... 'That alarm is annoying... I have to pee... get up and let me out!!"  ha-ha.

I pulled my sore body out of that comfortable, warm, soft bed at 5:40, put my tennis shoes on ... and devoted the next 40 minutes to making my body even more sore.

It felt great... but I have to say that if my lab was not there to physically move me... the sleepy might have just won...   Thanks Molly! :)
